Safeguards against missing codes February 1st 2007 A new enhancement to the Markem SmartDate 5 thermal transfer coder safeguards manufacturers from missing date and batch codes, and the subsequent threat of product recalls. The 'relative motion' feature is now standard on the SmartDate 5 and can also be retrofitted. In continuous coding operations missed or incomplete codes can occur if the film is stopped during the printing cycle. To prevent this, the SmartDate 5 automatically detects the slowing of the film and completes a readable code, even if the film comes to a stop half way through the printing process. During a three month trial period involving over 15 million prints, all non printed packs were eliminated, despite normal line stoppages. The SmartDate 5 also has a flexible I/O facility, giving extra connectivity and integration with factory systems. More articles from Markem Systems Ltd: |
