The cream of labelling systems? December 1st 2007 Unilever has updated pallet
labelling hardware and
software at its ice cream
factory in Gloucester using kit
from longstanding supplier,
MARKEM.
The company needed
software to integrate its
specialised process control
system with standard SAP to
manage production orders.
MARKEM recommended the
modular CoLOS platform,
which can be extended as
Unilever moves into other
areas. For example, an RFID
module can be added.
The system records all
pallet labels for traceability
purposes, and ensures that
the correct labels are
produced for the correct
product.
CoLOS takes information
from SAP, integrates with the
process control system then
sends the data to the Cimpak,
which prints and applies the
labels. The label information
is then verified by an
automated scanner. In the
event of an error, the line is
halted and the operator
alerted. Verified data is stored
and easily retrieved when
required. Info is also sent
back to the ERP system,
immediately updating
production records. More articles from Markem Systems Ltd: |
