Banking on mobile data system

A mobile data system, based on RF wireless data terminals and supplied by i2 Mobile Solutions, is ensuring that Nationwide Building Societys distribution centre in Swindon operates efficiently.

Member documentation is stored and distributed from here, including urgent communications, pre-printed forms, secure products and computer supplies.

Items are stored on barcoded pallets with the codes providing identification and warehouse location. The codes allow fast monitoring of items in transit from the warehouse to their destination.

Using a newly installed Cisco RF backbone, i2 Mobile Solutions supplied Symbol PDT 6842 RF wireless terminals. Charging cradles allow neat storage of terminals when not in use and give a boost to batteries, alongside dedicated battery chargers. The system has improved coverage throughout the warehouse for the WLAN via six access/receiver points.
