Tracking unit gains an edge April 1st 2007 The latest in-vehicle Tracking Unit (MTU) from Microlise includes a GPRS modem with EDGE capability for increased data communications transfer speed. This is especially useful for CANBus telematics, proof of delivery or other mobile workforce applications where more data needs to be transmitted between a mobile data terminal connected to the MTU and the host Microlise Transport Management Centre software.
GPRS can typically transmit data at 32- 48kbps using 5 timeslots or data channels. EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution), also known as Enhanced GPRS, increases the speed of each timeslot to 48kbps and allows 8 timeslots to be used to increase maximum data transfer rates to 384kbps, nearly 10 times the speed of normal GPRS More articles from Microlise Ltd: |
