High trailer turnaround
February 1st 2008

Logistics services provider, Euro Continental has turned to Translift Bendi to gain best use of limited storage space and achieve impressive lorry turnaround times.

In March Euro Continental consolidated its operations under one roof in a palletracked warehouse. The narrow aisle racking has been designed around the articulated Bendi forklift.

Some versions of the Bendi can work in aisles just 1.6m wide, compared with the 3.6 and 2.6m typically required by counterbalance and reach trucks. As a result, the Bendi can deliver up to 55% more pallet storage positions.

As the Bendi is as much at home working in rough yards as on smooth warehouse floors, it can move a pallet straight from a lorry into the narrow aisle racking – eliminating any need for double handling.

This is particularly beneficial at Euro Continental, where 75 lorries are processed each day and fast turnaround is vital to the operation.

The gas powered BG40 Bendi used at the site can lift 1600kg to 3.5m and works in aisles just over 2m wide, which allow the handling of outsize pallets.

The Bendis are used to remove pallet loads from up to 6m high to replenish order picking faces at ground level. Complete loads are also taken directly from the racking to waiting lorries.

The Bendi has side shift and a flashing safety beacon, as well as safety advantages inherent to the design. For example, load vision when interfacing with racking beams is said to be much better than with reach and counterbalance trucks.

Also, there is no rear end to swing and damage racking.
