Trucking with gas saves costs June 1st 2008 Palletways move 14,000
pallets every day in the
UK, and now two gaspowered
Bendi forklifts
from Translift Bendi are
helping the company
cope with massive
growth on its Lichfield
site. Three electric
articulating forklifts
already operate on the
site, but this time a
decision was made to try
gas powered vehicles.
"The benefits of gas for
me are probably a saving
of 90 mins a day in not
having to change the
batteries, saving £6500
annually, not including
standby battery costs,"
says Bob Richards,
divisional manager at
Stargate Logistics
Distribution (a Palletways
division). "The reliability of
the gas trucks has also
been incredible."
The Bendis work from
6am until midnight dealing
with 300 incoming doubledeck
trailers every day.
They also work on goodsin
operations. Palletways is
currently working on
product recognition by
customer barcode to allow
Bendis to scan loads on
incoming lorries and place
them on racking, cutting out
double handling.
The main advantage of
the Bendi forklift is its space
saving swivelling mast. It
can also work internally and
externally in very rough
yards. Rack damage is
avoided as the forklift has
no rear end swing, and
safety is increased by giving
a clear view of loads. Leased
with a full maintenance
contract, the two Bendis lift
loads to 8.2m with a
900kg–7.7m capacity. More articles from Translift Bendi Limited: |
