Powering up March 1st 2011 Clever attachment allows Guernsey
Electricity to safely transport pallets
Contact Attachments, based in Mid Wales, has
manufactured a purpose-built Forklift Transfer Platform
that is being used by the only electricity supplier to
Guernsey in the Channel Islands. Guernsey Electricity uses the
platform to help safely transport pallets of equipment and white
goods from containers to various storage points at its Northside
warehouse.
Jason Cadman, technical sales consultant at Contact
Attachments, says: "Our usual Forklift Transfer Platform has a
box section frame on three sides that protects the contents as
they are being moved, along with a ramp front which enables
easy loading and unloading.
"However, the one we sold to Guernsey Electricity had some
safety-securing chains at the front, rather than a ramp. After
carefully considering the customer's specific requirements, we
built two stand-alone ramps that can be bolted to the floor and
easily allow the contents of the containers to be safely rolled on
and off of the platform."
Ian Wylie, assistant planning engineer for Guernsey
Electricity, adds: "We use the platform to unload white goods
from containers using a forklift. It replaced one we used
previously and has been specifically designed to be slightly
shorter and carry fewer items, with health and safety regulations
in mind, so is a vast improvement.
"The new platform performs very well for our requirements, is
strong and robust, and I am sure it will serve us for many years
to come," Ian concludes.
