FLEXI fits the bill at Harlow Storage
June 1st 2005

A fleet of Narrow Aisle FLEXI G3s is enabling Harlow Group Storage to increase pallet spaces by 30% at its Essex warehouse.

The company moved to the 40,000 ft2 facility in 2003, selecting Redirack VNA racking combined with four FLEXI G3s, creating 6,500 pallet locations in six high racking.

“We need to use the trucks within the narrow aisles and in the yard,” explains Harlow Storage MD, Tony Sando. “Although we have racking over 9m high, we did not want a wire guided VNA system – and the FLEXI copes very well with the operation at that height.” The FLEXI’s articulated design means it can operate in aisles of just 1750mm and lift loads up to 2000kg – without any need for special floor requirements. It can lift up to 12m without the need for aisle guidance systems.

As well as the extra pallet locations, the trucks are increasing efficiency by enabling Harlow Group to use the same trucks to unload lorries in the loading bay, and transfer pallets directly into the racking, ready for picking. They are then transferred the the customer’s own shunt vehicle when required.

Operating a two-shift system 16 hours a day, seven days a week, means reliability is essential. “We cannot afford any downtime – but we haven’t had any problems with the FLEXI’s,” adds Sando.
