Long loads stacked at the top October 1st 2004 Handling in excess of one million tonnes of forest products each year, Port of Hull-based Northern Cargo Services (NCS) has adopted a new concept in storage and handling based chiefly around the capabilities of the Combilift multi-directional forklift. This has resulted in vast space savings and increased operational efficiency.
Until recently, NCS was using a combination of counterbalance forklifts and sideloaders to free stack packs of incoming timber to the stipulated height of three packs. This meant the upper half of the covered storage sheds were left empty.
Combilift engineers consulted closely with NCS to supply two custom-built diesel powered forklifts to meet lift specifications of three tonnes at 7.5m, so even the very top racking can be used for the largest packs handled, which are 6m long. More articles from Combilift Limited: |
