Going for Gold! September 1st 2011 The Fork Lift Truck Association Awards 2012 will have a distinctly Olympic flavour… and there's still time for you to get involved. Here's how.
It's an internationally famous event, where the thrill
of competition and the roar of an adoring crowd
inspires the world's best to strive for ever
higher standards… and the Olympics isn't
bad either.
The FLTA Awards for Excellence is going
Olympic, and to celebrate, there are seven new,
one-off categories for 2012, designed to embrace the Olympic
spirit of Citius, Altius, Fortius: "faster, higher, stronger".
We need your help to find the winners. For the Fork Lift Truck
"Marathon" and "Veteran" events, we need you to tell us about
extraordinary feats – anywhere in the world – long journeys
under a truck's own power, and very old trucks that are still
going strong.
Marathon: the longest journey under a truck's own power. We
know of a truck that was driven from John O'Groats to Land's
End in the UK, a journey of 915 miles.
Veteran: the oldest in-service fork lift truck. We know of a
number of active trucks from the 1950s… if you can beat that,
simply download an entry from www.fork-truck.org.uk and tell
us about it!
There are also details online about a Fork
Lift Gymnastics event, for the most
unusual fork lift truck photo.
These categories are open to literally
anyone - and there are some separate
challenges for fork lift manufacturers.
Makers of fork lift trucks can join in the
Olympic fun by submitting entries for
the following events
Weight lifting: the heaviest lift by a fork lift truck.
High jump: the highest lift with a duplex mast.
Triple jump: the highest lift with a multi-stage mast.
Sprint: the fastest lift.
Trucks should be currently in production and available for
sale, and claims should be backed up by official specification
sheets, but it's quick and easy to do. All the forms and details for
entering the Fork Lift Truck Olympics are online now at
