Expanded warehouse portfolio
October 1st 2010

Doosan continues to develop its warehouse equipment range and this will be a key element of its IMHX presence. Also important is a new telehandler and an economy range of smaller counterbalance trucks

Doosan will exhibit at this year's IMHX with its rapdily developing warehouse equipment range to the fore. The show will also mark the debut of a telehandler as well as offer a chance to see the economy range of counterbalance trucks.

A recent key development at Doosan was the establishment of a warehouse equipment manufacturing plant in Germany, giving the business its first range of order pickers, stackers and pallet trucks. The latest addition to the range is a new ride on pallet truck, the LEDH20MP.

The Doosan warehouse range has been designed to mirror the company's no-nonsense counterbalance range, with heavy duty components and the proven technology inherited by the company when it acquired ATL in 2008.

"We're very pleased to see this new pallet truck come on stream," says the UK's general sales manager, Paul Watson. "As well as being highly suited to the UK market, we are also impressed by the rugged design and ergonomic control features.

It shows that a European built truck for a European audience can work very well when combined with Korean know-how and ingenuity." The recently created warehouse equipment subsidiary, DILE, now manufactures a range of equipment complete with electronic AC systems, traction control and modern energy management, aimed at the air cargo, beverage and freight forwarding industries, as well as the general warehousing sector.

Plans to develop the warehouse range still further are already well underway.

These are encouraging signs," says Watson. "The business is not resting on its laurels. We continue to develop our existing product range, adding new designs and options, as well as introducing new models. Many of these developments are in response to the successes we've already had, and we are responding to the needs of our growing customer base." "Even though the market has been tough, we've weathered the storm well, and new equipment, like the LEDH20MP powered pallet truck, has put us in a great position for when the market picks up once again." High spec and economy ranges Doosan will also use IMHX to showcase its two distinct counterbalance ranges – the high specification Pro-5 Range and the economy GX Series (capacities 1.5 to 2.0 tonnes).

"We want to give visitors a flavour of the scope of our business," adds Watson. "We really have a strong presence here and it gives our growing customer-base even more confidence in the Doosan brand. We think people will be surprised by what we can offer." Meanwhile a display of value added features, such as integral sideshift, high performance engines, and operator sensing - on all Doosan Pro-5 models – will appeal to the fleet user. Visitors will also see examples from Doosan's own utility vehicle market leader Bobcat, Doosan Babcock (now called Doosan Power Systems),Marine Engines and CNC Machine Tools.

Having recently unveiled a new £500,000 parts distribution centre in Northampton, the company has demonstrated it is investing strongly in the UK. Together with the 13,000 square foot warehouse, integrated computer system and stockholding, the company has recruited staff to liaise with UK customers and parts centres in Korea and Belgium. Over 90 Doosan forklift models are available in the UK from 1.3 to 5.0 tonnes electric models and 1.5 to 16.0 tonnes IC. Stand 19H120 Tele-handler takes a bow Doosan will launch a new 16 tonne tele-handler at IMHX, the DT160 (pictured above). The DT160 is available with forks, cranes, platforms and bucket attachments. The high capacity telescopic handlers are said to offer exceptional performance in terms of heavy lifting.

The product range opens doors to numerous applications from civil engineering to forestry, mining to ports.

Handling loads up to 21 tonnes, it is said to maintain the agility associated with a small forklift truck.

Serviceability is also an area where great care has been taken, with easy access to all maintenance points. Three steering modes, a spacious cab and fingertip control completes the picture for the range, which comes in capacities from 7.0 to 21 tonnes.
