Pound-stretching trucks April 1st 2007 Atlet has supplied a fleet of 72 lift trucks to Instore's new Huddersfield DC. Formerly trading as Poundstretcher, the value retailer needed various trucks with guaranteed maintenance and rapid-response service support to ensure its roundthe- clock operations run smoothly. Part of a £10m-plus investment to streamline distribution operations, Instore has installed five Atlet Omni DCR man-up VNA stacker/pickers, seven Presto PLP pallet transporters, 37 Select TPL low-level order pickers and 17 UNS Tergo reach trucks, 12 of which are equipped to operate in double deep racking. As part of the deal Atlet has also supplied six LPG counterbalance trucks and around 100 hand pallet trucks. All of which enables the DC to despatch over 1000 pallet loads of orders each day to Instore's 330-plus stores nationwide. Consultants Logistics & Interim Management Services (LIM) handled the re-engineering of the DC. LIM's John Franklin says the ability to source all the necessary trucks from a single supplier was a major benefit. Another plus was Atlet's ability to guarantee 98 per cent up time due to the modular nature of its trucks: fewer components mean there is less to go wrong and that service engineers can carry just about any part necessary to fix a fault.
