Service engineers get on their bikes October 1st 2006 Service engineers from Yale UK Materials Handling have taken to two wheels to ensure they provide a fast response time to clients in London and the south east.
Yale engineers are using BMW R1200RT motorcycles – painted in Yale's striking corporate colours and livery – to manoeuvre through London's roads to reach customers in a fraction of the time it takes a traditional service van to negotiate the busy streets.
Kitted out with lap tops and diagnostic equipment, the engineers are often able to complete necessary repairs on the spot using tools and spare parts carried on their bikes.
"Because the majority of truck breakdowns are the result of minor faults, we have a high rate of first time fix," explains engineer Nathan Jones. "But for jobs requiring parts that we do not carry we have instant real time access to our parts distribution centre to ensure that the item is delivered to the customer straight away.
We hold a selection of key parts on site at some of our larger customers' facilities and this really enables us to maximise truck uptime." More articles from Yale Europe Materials Handling: |
