Heavy duty battery package
August 1st 2006

EnerSys's new Hawker Premier lift truck battery package offers reduced maintenance for all kinds of applications, including heavy-duty and cold store operations.

Hawker claims this is the first time that heavy-duty lift truck operations have been able to benefit from batteries that require so little maintenance. The Premier package significantly reduces maintenance costs and increases truck availability.

The Premier package offers battery topping-up intervals of up to 65 cycles, which equates to as long as three months in single shift operations, combined with substantial recharge energy savings. With the automatic topping-up system that is available as an optional extra the Premier batteries become virtually selfmaintaining.

The Hawker Premier package comprises batteries, 'intelligent' high-frequency chargers and the Easyplus, a battery-mounted electronic device that communicates with the charger.

The Premier high performance flooded-cell battery features an integrated air-mixing system. This enables more efficient, optimised, charging by preventing electrolyte and temperature stratification within the battery.

It also increases battery availability for the same nominal charging current, due to shorter charging time, which is suitable for multiple shift operations. Air mixing facilitates opportunity charging, which also extends truck availability.

Air mixing also minimises gassing during charging.

This reduces water consumption by as much as 70 per cent, which a major factor in the battery's low maintenance requirements.

The Premier battery will deliver 65 cycles, working to an 80% depth of discharge (DOD), before it needs to be topped-up. In single-shift operations this can be as long as three months. The maintenance period will be even longer if the battery is discharged less than 80%.
