A brick of a Super Pusher
April 1st 2005

Ibstock Brick says the two Nu-Star Super Pushers recently delivered to its Sussex base are coping well with the arduous site conditions.

The units are used to push up to 24 drier cars simultaneously to the drying tunnels, where bricks are slowly dried before going into the kiln. A full line of cars weighs approximately 38 tonnes.

Previously an old petrol powered Gravely tractor unit was used to do the hourly tunnel push, but, due to the age of the tractor, spares were becoming increasingly difficult to source and a battery powered solution was preferred to negate health & safety issues related to exhaust gases.

Ibstock’s mobile plant supervisor, David Roe, “We searched for a long time for a replacement for the old Gravely tractors and tried a number of alternatives.

Following trials we decided to take delivery of two Nu-Star Super Pushers and to date they have given excellent service and cope with the arduous conditions very well.”
