Access platforms designed with safety in mind June 1st 2004 Britannia has installed four large access platforms for railway vehicle manufacturer, Bombardier Transportation, at its Derby site.
The Britannia lifts were installed as part of the rail carriage production line. The four lifts, each measuring 11.5 x 1.2m, are housed in two parallel 23m long pits with a 3m gap between them, thus creating two continuous work platforms.
Rail carriages are then lowered into the gap by crane to be worked on. In order for the workers to have safe access to the extremities of each carriage, each lift has a stroke of 2m and a safe working load of 500kg UDL.
The lifts run end to end to enable workers to walk though the full length of each carriage and can move independently as well as simultaneously, said Britannia sales engineer, Dave Douglas. Several safety measures have been incorporated into the design. More articles from Britannia Lift Limited: |
