Bespoke electric wire rope hoist
February 1st 2006

Demag Cranes & Components has supplied an electric wire rope hoist, which is helping in the construction of the new Swale viaduct.

To meet the special demands of the project, Demag supplied a specially adapted model from its DH range of electric wire rope hoists. The 2.5t SWL hoist was modified to provide the 40m height lift required for the bridge construction.

Inverter controls are incorporated within the lifting system to ensure smooth travelling and positioning accuracy, even in windy conditions that prevail 40m above the estuary.

The Demag hoist is suspended from the bespoke gantry, which permits total hoist travel across the deck of almost 40m width, as well as along the span of the viaduct.

This bespoke lifting solution was extensively tested at a remote location before being disassembled, transported to site and reassembled.
