Diversity of bespoke materials
February 1st 2007

The tremendous diversity of bespoke materials handling solutions being presented by Excel Automation on stand 17R150 at this year's IMHX will highlight the company's extensive proven in-house engineering skills in creating effective handling schemes – from designing and building modular conveyor systems to major turnkey projects, often undertaking assignments that others shy away from.

The main feature on the stand will be an inductive powered transfer (IPT) system demonstrating the versatility and core benefits this technology brings to the handling market.

IPT combines two parts, primary and secondary which are magnetically coupled, similar to a conventional transformer.

The primary consists of a track power supply and track cable embedded in the floor and running either side of the guide channel.

The pickups and pickup regulators (the secondary element), are mounted on a transfer trolley.

Unlike a conventional transformer, where primary and secondary are tightly coupled, the IPT is a loosely coupled system, and allows power to be transferred across 5mm air gaps due to the high operating frequency of 10 to 25kHz.
