Drax harvests crane benefits December 1st 2009 A specialist bale handling crane
system has been installed by Demag
Cranes & Components at Drax
Power's new biomass processing
facility at Goole, East Riding of
Yorkshire. The plant processes straw
into fuel pellets for co-firing with
coal. Demag installed a 29m span,
double girder, automatic crane
system, rated at 22t SWL.Mounted
on the crane is a specialist 12t bale
handling grab unit.
Each day up to 400t of raw straw
bales are unloaded from delivery
lorries by the Demag crane, with
operator control via a user friendly,
remote controlled joystick. The
system unloads 12 straw bales, with a
total weight of 8t, per lift. Once
unloaded, sensors check the bales'
moisture levels and, if accepted, the
crane switches to automatic mode
and deposits the bales within the
1700m2 storage area to a positioning
accuracy of 15mm. More articles from Demag Cranes & Components Ltd: |
