Jung jacks pass turbine test August 1st 2008 British Turntable's industrial
division has helped Jeff
Laidlaw Transport make light
work of delivering and
lowering a 4.5t turbine into
a 3m deep pit at a test
facility in Oxfordshire by
supplying a set of four Jung
hydraulic jacks. The JH 5 G
jacks were recommended by
British Turntable because of
their low profile.
The turbine, designed by
Quadratec, was destined for
Reaction Engines (REL)
custom-designed outdoor
engine test facility at the
Culham Science Centre in
Oxfordshire, where it would
undergo computer
controlled testing in the
lower of the facility's two
levels.
Collection of the turbine,
from Quadratec in South
Wales was simple enough
using a HIAB truck. The
delivery point proved trickier
as the turbine needed to be
lowered into a large circular
pit 3m deep and 15m in
diameter. As it was only
possible to get the turbine
within 11m of its final
position using the HIAB, it
had to be moved horizontally
to get it just right.
Use of the Jung jacks
enabled the turbine to be
raised high enough to get
skates underneath and, once
the turbine was in position,
the jacks were used to lower
it to floor level. More articles from Movetech UK: |
