ASDA gets cool star treatment August 1st 2007 Star Refrigeration has
installed an energy efficient
refrigerant plant at ASDA's
central DC in Lutterworth.
Star has partnered with
ASDA since 1988 to produce
several environmental award
winning refrigeration
systems.
Last year the retail giant
sought a new system to
replace an existing R22 plant
and meet increased
operational demands. Star
was commissioned in a
contract worth over £3m
and the firm worked closely
with ASDA and its building
contractor to ensure the site
remained fully operational
over the following 10
months.
Delivered on time and to
budget, the cooling solution
comprised an ammonia and
carbon dioxide cascade plant
that is highly energy
efficient, reliable and robust,
and operates on natural
refrigerants.
Located in a purpose built tug power
energy centre, the system
has an overall cooling
capacity of 3.2MW and
serves a total internal
volume of around 270,000
cubic metres. Star's patented
TELSTAR computerised
control ensures optimum
performance.
The fourth installation of
its kind for ASDA, the
cascade plant operates with
ammonia refrigerant in the
high temperature stage and
CO2 in the low temp stage.
The low stage CO2 plant
has a cooling capacity of
820kW. It supplies low
temperature liquid CO2 to
six air coolers in the cold
store. The high stage
ammonia plant operates
with a minimal charge. The
plant serves 20 air coolers in
three chill areas and has a
capacity of 2.4MW. More articles from Star Refrigeration: |
