Supermarket shops for new lifts
October 1st 2004

UK Lift has come to the aid of a leading supermarket chain that needed scissor lifts that could be fully integrated into its existing trailer docking system.

Double decker trailers are used to transfer goods between the supermarket’s distribution centres and, as much of the transfer work is carried out above ground, safety is a key consideration.

The lifts supplied have a hydraulic bridge with a float facility between the lift platform and the vehicle. A set of interlocking gates line the bridge to protect those working at height and to avoid the possibility of cages falling as they are moved on and off the lift.

UK lift included dual control movement, whereby movement of the lift between the dock and the lower level can be controlled from the ground. However, only the person on the lift can control movement to the upper trailer level.

The lift is mechanically and electrically interlocked into the dock pod. Up to 11 roll cage pallets fit into the lift, carrying a total load of 6000kg.

Lifts load and unload roll cages from the building dock at 1200mm to the lower deck at 355mm above ground and the upper deck that is up to 2990mm. When not in use, the lift folds down to just 400mm in height and doubles as a ramp to the lower level. No civil work was necessary for installation of the lift.
