Freight volumes fell 15% in 2009 February 3rd 2011 Figures from the Office of National Statistics has confirmed that freight volumes fell in 2009.
Between 2008 and 2009 total freight decreased by 15 per cent, with around 1.9 billion tonnes of freight lifted within Great Britain in 2009.
Road freight fell by 17 per cent, rail by 16 per cent and water by 11 per cent. In 2009 UK airports moved a total of 2 million tonnes of freight, a decrease of 10 per cent from 2008. International freight handled decreased by 10.4 per cent while domestic freight handled decreased by 6.7 per cent.
