Internet sales are rocket fuel for space race January 1st 2011 Demand for warehouse space was largely driven by retailers in 2010, with e-tail playing an increasingly prominent role. This is likely to continue into 2011 according to King Sturge’s Property Predictions 2011 published yesterday.
Tim Johnson, partner, Industrial Agency at King Sturge said: “Retailers accounted for 74% of all floorspace taken up in the new logistics units of 100,000 sq ft and over in 2010, including at least 1.7 million sq ft linked to internet operations.”
The property consultancy highlights Mintel forecasting that UK internet sales will grow 7% per annum faster than all retail sales over the five years 2010-2014, to reach 9.1% of all retail sales in 2014. More articles from Handling & Storage Solutions: |
