Sub-standard wheels to be debated in Commons November 28th 2011 Labour MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East, Paul Goggins will continue the debate on commercial vehicle wheel safety with Mike Penning MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport, in Westminster Hall this Tuesday (November 29).
The debate marks the latest development in a series of exchanges between the MPs which commenced in a face-to-face meeting in November 9, 2010, a Westminster Hall debate on March 29, 2011, and a series of letters focusing on the issue.
The debate will continue to focus upon how potentially substandard second-hand wheels are entering the commercial vehicle wheel supply chain, the inherent problems this causes the CV industry, and what can be done to monitor and assess the scale of the issue.
Motor Wheel Service estimates that over 10,000 second hand and take-off wheels enter the UK aftermarket every year, of which the large majority are sold by companies who do not possess the technical abilities or examination procedures to ascertain the history and fatigue of a wheel.
