Combilift to ship 1200 units August 24th 2005 Combilift aims to break the 1,000 unit mark for the first time in its history – with plans to ship 1200 trucks this year, according to MD Martin McVicar. The firm sold 888 Combilifts in 2004 and McVicar says it is on target to achieve 30% growth predictions.
As the company migrates to its new Monaghan facility, McVicar says the plant has capacity to produce up to 2,000 trucks per annum on a single shift basis. It will consider moving to a double shift in 2007-2008 if current growth is sustained.
The four-way truck (which won the FLTA Design Achievement award in February) now operates in every European country (including new EU entrants), alongside operations in Australia, Canada and the US. Some 3,600 Combilifts are currently in use worldwide.
Available in 2.5 to 12 tonne capacities, Combilift is designed specifically to handle long or awkward loads. Working indoor and out, the truck can operate in narrow aisles thanks to its four-way manoeuvrability (it needs no space to turn), thereby eliminating double handling and the need for dedicated narrow aisle trucks. Complex manoeuvring is also negated, and long loads are less prone to sway because they can be carried at a low level and rested on the trucks decklength:
"It's like having a 2.2m fork width," claims McVicar. Also, because the load can be carried at a low level, the operator's view is unimpaired, reducing the potential for accidents.
