Swisslog builds on previous business with Migros Automated picking from Swisslog August 17th 2006 Migros' cheese specialist, Mifroma SA, has ordered a new, automated picking and palletising system from logistics solutions provider, Swisslog. The present plant facilities in Ursy in the canton of Freiburg where Migros currently handles all of its cheese processing, will be expanded and equipped with a fully automated system for processing packaged finished products in crates.
The new technology will make it possible to automatically put together individual pallets with up to 100 different products for distribution to specific Migros branch stores. “In light of the continuous rise in sales volumes in recent years, the new system provides a significant increase in capacity, which will allow us to secure a high picking efficiency in the future,” says Mr. Menoud, head of production and logistics at Mifroma.
The scope of the order amounts to about 10 million Swiss francs and includes the comprehensive planning and implementation of the new system, which is scheduled to go into operation in spring 2008. As well as delivering all of the storage technology for the new logistics system, Swisslog will also provide all the conveying elements, including control systems, for picking and palletising and expand the existing warehouse management system Swisslog WarehouseManager.
Following Swisslog’s earlier implementation with several extensions of a logistics system for ELSA, Migros’ milk product specialist, the expansion of the cheese processing plant at Mifroma represents a further order from Migros.
