Integrated FLT restraint system
August 15th 2006

German forklift safety specialist, IWS, Kamp-Lintfort, has developed the PilotProtector, a vehicle-integrated restraining system that keeps the driver safely inside the cabin in the case of rollovers/tipovers, protecting them from being struck by parts of the lift truck.

The PilotProtector is integrated into both sides of the cabin frame and mounted to the beams of the overhead guard. The door-bar system forms a barrier on both sides of the cabin, ensuring the driver is kept safely inside. It can easily be opened and closed and does not limit the driver’s elbowroom. The integrated padding ensures protection and comfort for the driver’s shoulders and pelvis. The door can easily be operated by a remote trigger for the lock.

The PilotProtector can be fitted with a sensor preventing the lift truck from being moved with the doors open. The restraining system is very flexible and can be adapted to all types of lift truck. Over 500 different truck types can be equipped with the system, including all models of the leading forklift manufacturers. The PilotProtector can be fitted to all new models and is also suitable for retrofit to all types of forklift trucks – even in models manufactured in the 1970’s. Maintenance costs are low due to high-quality and a robust steel construction and, in the case of any damage, spare parts are readily available.
