Further growth in Ireland for Proteus
July 19th 2006

3PL PRL Group chose Proteus WMS to handle the Warehouse requirements of Dairygold’s product range. The group’s purpose built 90,000 sq ft warehouse, located near Dublin, has 13,000 pallet locations, 4 blocks of movable racking and an area of fixed racking. Each mobile rack is 6 tiers high, with 9 aisles to a block providing 72 pick faces, and there are also 720 pallet locations within the fixed racking bins. Proteus RF Directed WMS handles receipting, put away, picking, bulk to pick replenishments, FIFO, stock rotation, quarantine, load planning, label production, despatch, warehouse performance, stock integrity and KPI’s. Since going live a week ago, Proteus has handled 24,000 picks, without dropping volumes on replenishments and putaways.

NCS, a major 3PL in Ireland specialising in cold storage, chose Proteus RF Directed WMS to run their new, purpose built, cold storage warehouse and to control their van sales/door step deliveries. The warehouse operates at -28o and stores the well known Unilever brands i.e. HB/Walls, Carte D’Or, Birds Eye Frozen Foods and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. Scanning equipment is provided by Psion Teklogix.

Proteus also controls the company’s fleet van sales. Every delivery vehicle is equipped with a PDA that links to the Proteus system. Each vehicle is treated like a movable “mini-warehouse”. As goods are sold “off the van” the sale is record in the PDA. On return to the warehouse the PDA is connected to the main Proteus WMS system and is automatically updated with the recorded information.

This produces a simultaneous update across the reporting tools that are built in to the software, giving true visibility of stock levels, as well as producing an audit trail so that track and trace of stock is available.

Order processing, invoicing and purchase order control becomes an automatic process. Stock taking is far easier as there is full track and trace of stock through the use barcodes that are consistently scanned throughout the product journey from storage through to delivery to the end user.
