The full package What's new in shrink wrapping? October 26th 2006 Today too many manufacturers offering similar systems are chasing too few opportunities. With a manufacturing base consolidating and contracting at an alarming rate, there is little from which to choose apart from weight of metal, price and ideally UK service.
So, how does a potential purchaser find their way to the best ‘package of values’? Barry Tucker, Chairman of Aetna UK suggests the following as the basis on which to arrive at that optimum decision.
EASE OF OPERATION. Are the operators going to be happy with the system and can they easily and safely reach any product collating problems inside any system. Can they get in on either side?
EASE OF MAINTENANCE. How simple is regular housecare? Are all areas and assemblies easily reached for regular or emergency attention when necessary?
RELIABILITY. Is the system reliable? Are the references genuine and have you spoken with the operators?
FLEXIBILITY. How quickly and simply can size and format changes be made? How many change parts are required? Can you add blocks to expand the machine capability in the future, ie begin with film only and expand with a tray-packing module if necessary?
ACCURACY. Do you need accurate control print registration? Will you be working with speeds of up to 60 packages per minute? Will the products packed be of difference size and weight? Is it important to precisely measure out the unrolling of films at high speeds according to the trajectory set out by the wrapping bar?
AFTER SALES SERVICE. Is there a UK organisation with UK Service Engineers readily available?
CUSTOMER CARE. What about free of charge consultancy and advice from experienced UK Packaging line Engineers? What about availability of Spare Parts?
TECHNOLOGY. Are components commercial and readily available? No secret ‘black boxes’? Are they proven and trouble free?
Is the offer ‘value for money’? Not based on price, but the optimum value for your company?
Aetna UK says its DIMAC shrinkwrapping range is a firm favourite within the drinks industries, particularly for glass and PVC bottles, cans, glass and PVC jars and cartons of juice and milk.
Recent overseas installations include Carlsberg, Bulgaria, Coca Cola Amatil, Indonesia, Italian Food Spa, Italy, La Vie De Luc water, South Africa and Carlton & United Breweries, Australia.
Aetna believes the combination of DIMAC and support make it well worth checking out.
