Rapid ROI from energy efficient lights

Chalmor's Brilliance light fittings and Autolux controllers are saving money and energy at Wincanton's automated DC in Corby. Payback on energy savings is calculated at less than two years. Combined with longer relamping cycles the projected ROI is estimated at just over a year and a half.

Replacing high pressure sodium lights, the Brilliance fittings increase lighting levels while reducing electrical load. Autolux controllers, linked to photocells with presence detectors enable the system to detect sunlight, and dim the lights accordingly - and also people, so lights can be switched off completely if an aisle is not in use.

Additionally, the improved colour rendering makes picking much easier for night shift workers. "The fact we've been able to improve working conditions, reduce our carbon footprint and save money is a clear indication of the effectiveness of Chalmor's lighting solution," says engineering manager, Nathan Goudie.
