Aisle-Master a breath of fresh air
December 20th 2007

Respirex, a leading manufacturer of personal and respiratory protection equipment, has doubled storage capacity in its warehouse by replacing a reach truck with an Aisle-Master articulated forklift.

Demand for the company’s range has doubled in the last 3 years, triggering the need for a more rationalised approach to handling and storage at its Surrey based manufacturing site. Stock had previously been stored across five different locations, making locating components and the tracking of part availability difficult.

Storage was then consolidated under one roof, and initially purchasing manager Mark Stebbens and his team went for a reach truck/wide aisle combination. This restricted the amount of racking and aisles they could accommodate however, and they changed over to the space saving capabilities of the Aisle-Master. The Aisle-Master’s ability to work “in every inch of space” as Mark puts it, enabled aisle widths to be cut drastically so that twice the number of aisles and racks are incorporated in the same area.

The electric Aisle-Master also provides a number of other benefits as Mark points out: “It is an all-round truck; due to its large super elastic tyres we can use it for offloading the constant stream of deliveries outside in the yard, and it manoeuvres well in tight confines.
