And the SHEDA award goes to…

Davicon Structural Engineers. has been named 2006 Supplier of the Year by the Storage and Handling Equipment Distributors’ Association (SHEDA). 

The coveted award was presented to the West Midlands mezzanine flooring specialist at this year’s SHEDA AGM and awards presentation, a major industry highlight of the year.

Last year’s winners, Redirack Ltd of South Yorkshire, were back in the spotlight, taking second place as Supplier of the Year, with Moresecure International of Telford coming third for the third successive year.

The Shield of Honour Award, presented to the company that has shown the most improved service over the previous year, went to Allibert Buckhorn UK Ltd., of Bromsgrove.

Jack Phelan, Managing Director of Dublin-based New Age Services Ltd., was named winner of the SHEDA Lifetime Achievement award, in recognition of an industry contribution spanning 35 years. Accepting on his behalf, Ray Phelan described the former senior national hockey player as “convivial, generous to a fault and highly regarded by all as a true gentleman and a professional”.

The SHEDA Awards, now in their 18th year and voted by the members, are presented annually to publicly recognise the outstanding service provided by SHEDA members across the UK and Ireland.

Nearly 60 SHEDA members and associates gathered for this year’s event, held once again at the Billesley Manor Hotel, Stratford on Avon.

SHEDA President Craig Powell said: “This year’s award winners demonstrate how consistently SHEDA members continue to reach and excel the highest levels of service, remaining at the forefront of innovation in our industry.”

Embarking on his second year of office, he told the meeting membership was rising and said: “I believe SHEDA has never been stronger. Our membership  represents a high proportion of all the storage and handling companies in the UK and Ireland and we have a dedicated and committed Council who recently launched our new mission statement, ‘To Strive for Excellence in Storage and Handling’. ”
