Bags of space with Aisle-Master November 30th 2007 Bag and luggage importer W.Brown has discovered that less can sometimes mean more by using an electric powered Aisle-Master articulated forklift to handle and store considerable more stock in a reduced storage area.
The company imports around 300 container loads of goods per year, which are then palletised or boxed before being reloaded for delivery to end customers across the UK, Europe and Ireland. A recent move to new premises in Rushden, Northamptonshire, was the impetus for a rethink of the materials handling system, as the reach trucks used by W. Brown needed a large area in which to operate.
As warehousing capacity was down from 40,000 to 35,000ft², best possible use of the storage area was crucial. MD James Brown: “After seeing an Aisle-Master in action, we realised we could kit out the new warehouse from the start according to the Aisle-Masters capabilities. By replacing a reach truck with the Aisle-Master, we have created a good 35% extra space. This was achieved by cutting aisle-widths between racking and taking racking up to the eave height of 7m. As space equals money, the Aisle-Master has more than paid off.
”The Aisle-Master’s versatility is a further asset. It can be used for both inside and outdoor operations, for offloading and bringing loads directly to the racking, increasing productivity. LPG powered Aisle-Masters are also available, with impressive lift capacities of up to 2.5 tonnes and lift heights of up to 12.5 metres. Engineered and built in Monaghan, Ireland, the trucks have an enviable global track record of robust operation and reliability.
