Keeping operations rolling September 21st 2007 A fleet of five Aisle-Masters are keeping operations rolling at West Midlands based Protec Direct, stockist and distributor of PPE, work and leisure wear.
By replacing a combination of reach and counterbalance forklifts with the versatile Aisle-Masters, considerable increases in pallet density and storage capacity have been achieved. “We were running out of storage capacity and had to rent space elsewhere”, explains operations manager Phil Durnell. “We decided to go for forklifts that would free up more space in the current premises and cut the need to use multiple types of trucks.“
Phil and his team were already aware of the articulated concept, as the Wednesbury site is a close neighbour of a company offering this type of forklift. Protec Direct was keen to source trucks with a proven reputation for excellent build quality and reliability, so they chose the Aisle-Master range, which is designed and built in Monaghan, Ireland. “The quality, price and delivery schedule were all spot on,” comments Phil.
Bulk racking has been replaced with more space efficient pallet racking for extra picking locations. This has improved storage density by a good 20%, and has created over 700 extra pallet positions.
The Aisle-Masters are used in all stages of operations, and the trucks’ proven ability to pick in the aisles as well as to offload and load pallets in the yard makes them universal machines and an invaluable asset.
