Reducing risks with a boom
April 15th 2008

SIG has purchased Lead Booms from Invicta Forks & Attachments to reduce manual handling risks for personnel in its Roofing Division, SIG Roofing Supplies.

Designed to handle heavy coiled or cylindrical products, such as steel coils, concrete pipes and rolls of lead, each boom is designed to meet the customer’s particular requirements. SIG Roofing Supplies routinely handles heavy rolls of lead, a potentially hazardous operation when carried out manually.

The Lead Booms from Invicta have enabled rolls of lead to be handled more easily, simplifying the van loading operation. One of the main safety features of the Invicta Lead Boom is its fully-automatic heel pin retention. This eliminates any possibility of the attachment slipping off the truck’s forks during handling and transporting. Also, a thumb screw enables the fork truck driver to provide secondary locking by securely clamping the Lead Boom to the truck’s forks.

“The Lead Booms we have in operation within our branches have been an invaluable addition to our Roofing Division, improving health and safety and enabling us to handle lead much more efficiently,” says Jeff Hibbard of SIG.
