Package ID products at Post Expo 2008 August 28th 2008 Vitronic is to exhibit at Post Expo 2008, the three-day, world premier event for the postal, mailing and parcel industries, which takes place in London and begins on 30 September. Located on stand 1200, Vitronic will demonstrate a range of its camera-based package identification products and have its engineers ready to handle queries.
Vitronic will display its VIPAC parcel identification system at Post Expo. VIPAC operates over conveyors and sorters, and its high-resolution, line-scan cameras capture images of parcel labels. The system interprets these using advanced software and optical character recognition (OCR) techniques, allowing it to read barcodes, handwritten addresses and supplier numbers. The acquired data is used to sort parcels automatically at high speed. Together with videocoding, a facility that allows the manual input of unreadable labels, VIPAC achieves read rates approaching 100%.
Also on show will be VICAM-mobile, a handheld camera used to scan goods that are normally difficult to process (e.g. awkwardly shaped items), and Volumec HS2s, an ingenious device that utilises lasers to calculate the volume of parcels. Volumec HS2s is fully compatible with VIPAC and affects the efficient utilisation of transit space in vehicles. A unique and pioneering product, it is the only automatic volume-measuring device certified for use over sorters.
