Smurfit looks to Hörmann for size and speed
February 13th 2008

Cooks Doors supplied and installed Hörmann’s new oversized V10008 high-speed door at the Smurfit Sheetfeeding warehouse in Fishergate, Norwich. At 10,000mm wide, the door accommodates a heavy flow of traffic including bigger vehicles used for product distribution.

Despite its size, the V10008 is still able to open at 0.8m/sec which is one of its major plus points according to Kevin Notley, director of Cooks Doors of Norwich, who oversaw the installation.

“The fact that a door of this size is able to open and close at high speed is hugely appealing to customers. Any time gains in a busy working environment, no matter how small, add up over a longer period.”

David Wilde, maintenance manager at Smurfit Sheetfeeding, reiterated the need for a curtain that was big and fast: “The V10008 certainly meets the criteria. We constantly have forklifts and lorries moving through this area of the site and the operational speed of the door helps to increase efficiency.”

A double tensioning belt and especially wide guide rails have been incorporated to ensure reliable door travel when operating a curtain of this weight. Tandem track rollers have been added to the design to ensure quiet door travel while also allowing for higher wind pressures.

The V10008 comes standard with a frequency converter control and double closing edge at the bottom profile which guarantee that the closing forces are adhered to, providing the door with the required level of security.

The V10008 was first launched at the BAU exhibition in Munich at the beginning of 2007 and introduced to the UK market at the IMHX exhibition shortly after.
