Aisle-Master is the sweet solution
January 21st 2008

Antrim based Steve’s Cakes has chosen an Aisle-Master articulated forklift to improve the handling and storage of pallets of raw materials and finished product at its 20,000 ft² manufacturing and distribution facility. The company produces 800,000 individual traybakes per week and supplies the multiple and independent sector in the UK and Ireland.

The 2 tonne capacity Aisle-Master forklift was brought in to replace a counterbalance truck, after Aisle-Master’s design engineers supplied plans illustrating how storage space could be maximised. “This free service was an eye opener” explains MD Stephen Gamble. “Compared to our old truck, the Aisle-Master’s articulated design and versatile operation have been of great benefit as it can work in much narrower confines. By racking out the warehouse according to its capabilities, we have 40% more storage space in the same area. This will allow us to increase production without worrying about buying extra space or relocating. The extra pallet positions have also allowed us to do away with external storage and keep everything undercover.”

The Co. Monaghan based manufacturers of the Aisle-Master range offer both electric and LPG powered models. In this instance, electric power was necessary due to regulations governing the food manufacturing industry, and the non-marking tyres fitted also ensure a clean operation in the warehouse. Stephen reports a track record of 100% reliability, which leaves him free to concentrate on developing his range of quality cakes and expanding the business.
