Easy access with Combilift
February 18th 2008

Moving, stacking and locating stock at Access Technologies has become a whole lot easier, and safer, since a Combilift 4-way forklift has been in operation at its manufacturing facility in Shropshire. The truck’s 4-way capability has also enabled an impressive 50% increase in internal storage capacity to be achieved.

Access Technology specialises in the supply of steel flooring and safety access products, and operations director Tony Baldassarra needed a solution to the problem of manoeuvering 6m long packs of steel panels and 7.5m long tubes up a gradient and through a 4.8m wide doorway using counterbalance trucks. “This was potentially dangerous, time consuming, and greedy on storage space inside” he says. Paul Raymond, of materials handling specialist Abex recommended a C3000 3-tonne capacity LPG powered Combilift, fitted with hydraulic fork positioners due to the varying sizes of loads to be carried. This one truck has addressed all of Tony’s concerns: “The increased operational efficiency, reduced risk of product damage, improved use of storage space and much safer procedures more than justify the investment in the Combilift.

The current Combilift range encompasses over a dozen models with capacities ranging from 2.5 – 14 tonnes, with LPG, diesel or electric power available. A team of design engineers at the Monaghan factory in Ireland will also draw up free warehouse layouts to illustrate the best possible use of available storage space using the Combilift system.
