Hörmann specified for Ikea Belfast
January 21st 2008

Hörmann UK has supplied and installed the loading bay equipment at the newly opened IKEA store at Holywood Exchange, Belfast.

The site is a massive 29,000 sq meters and the construction of the project was managed by pcm management, who has overseen various projects for IKEA across the UK.

The specification was for six specially angled 30 degree pedestals and loading houses which provide access to manually operated SPU40 doors. Angled pedestals were specified for this project as they provide a wider range for manoeuvring in a limited turning area.

The pedestals, which are galvanised in an immersion bath, were installed complete with cladded loading houses fitted in front of the building and this design affords maximum warehouse space on the inside of the loading bay.

A further advantage of the pedestal design is that it can be quickly and easily dismantled and then re-assembled should any alterations ever need to be made to the building.

Each loading house features a hinged dock leveller which is characterised by particularly strong hinges and suitable for handling heavy goods. The loading houses include collapsible dock shelters which add a number of key benefits to the loading bay set-up; including all-round protection of goods and staff against the elements.
