Successful storage solution for paper pulp

Global MSI has completed the installation of a storage canopy for M-REAL at its New Thames Mill site. The 486 square metre structure stands six metres tall and provides storage for paper pulp. It is the second Global structure to be installed on the site, the first offering dry loading bay coverage for articulated lorries.

"Global MSI has provided us with a bespoke solution to our storage problem," says Brian Parnell of M-Real. "The project was completed on time, on budget and to a very high standard. We have been impressed with the project management element of the works, especially their attention to all aspects of Health and Safety legislation".

Global’s in-house team carried out the structural design, manufacture, installation and project management of the canopy. Each Global structure is a site-specific design, which offers the client a great deal of flexibility in how the canopy is laid out. Issues such as number of columns and their placement are assessed to offer the best possible solution. Side cladding and roller shutter doors can also be incorporated where enclosed storage facilities are required.

The M-Real canopy is an excellent example of Global’s design capability. The original plan was for the canopy to free-stand on six columns. In association with M-Real engineers Global were able to modify the original design to support the canopy on three columns plus three pad-stones that were set into the existing mill wall, increasing the useable area under the canopy.
