Safe cylinder handling & mixing units October 29th 2008 Safety Trolley Systems (STS) has launched a cylinder handler and agitator unit which solves the problem of manually handling large cylinders of up to 350kg which are being filled, refurbished or tested.
All too often operators find themselves lifting and rolling cylinders by hand in order to move the cylinders and agitate the contents for a complete mix, and STS can offer a number of bespoke solutions.
The unit pictured is completely mobile so that the operator can wheel the unit to the pallet of cylinders and line up the bottom plate with the pallet. The cylinder can then be rolled onto the bottom plate. The operator can then power close the clamp to secure the cylinder and wheel the unit around.
The clamping pads are lined with a synthetic rubber material that is able to grip the cylinder even if it is wet. This is important because the cylinder may become wet if it rains or if condensation forms on the cylinder.
Once clamped the unit can rotate the cylinder through 360 degrees in either direction. The unit agitates the contents by rotating plus or minus 10 degrees whilst it is being filled, using an electronic programmable control system supplied by Curtis Instruments.
This large cylinder handling device represents further diversification for STS, a manufacturing company which boasts a comprehensive range of standard drum handling, de-palletising and mixing equipment and an enviable number of bespoke handling units which can be seen on the recently re-launched website (www.sts-trolleys.co.uk).
