Hörmann – keeping a chill in the air
March 23rd 2009

Keeping food either chilled or frozen throughout its journey from manufacturer to the chilled or freezer shelf in the store presents a number of logistical challenges, and none more so than ensuring it is kept at a constant optimum temperature.

Obviously the temperature of a warehouse or storage area will depend considerably on the products that are being stored within it. Maintaining the optimum internal temperature goes hand-in-hand with energy efficiency and as the efficiency of a door can have a significant effect on the ambient temperature, specifying the right door is essential.

Faced with the increased pressure to ensure the retention of cold temperatures in the warehouse for the benefits of saving money, saving energy and preserving products, managers should be looking for doors that have excellent thermal insulation properties, as well as efficient high speed doors that can operate safely at speeds that will minimise any negative effects of opening and closing the temperature controlled warehouse.

Hörmann UK’s ISO-SPEED cold door has been specifically designed to provide the solution for this type of environment and is ideal for cold or freezer storage areas.

The ISO-SPEED comprises 80mm thick CFC-free PU rigid foam steel insulated panels, giving it exceptionally high strength and rigidity and it has an opening speed of up to 2.5m/s.

The intelligent door leaf construction provides a thermal insulation value of 0.3 W/m²k. The deep-freezer version, withstanding temperatures down to -28C, proves to be a sensible solution for particularly demanding application areas. Heating traces are including in the side guides and between panel sections for all doors other than those using vertical tracks.
