Windsor sorts wheat from chaff March 31st 2009 Windsor Komatsu and Access has delivered eight lift trucks and two pallet trucks to farm machinery manufacturer, Simba, on a five year contract.
Simba originally called Windsor for a short-term forklift, required at short notice to cope with its busy peak season. The firm was impressed with Windsor’s speed of response – and the drivers liked the Komatsu forklift. So when the long-term contract came up for renewal, Windsor was invited to quote, and in doing so showed Simba not just forklift options, but where it could improve site efficiency.
Improvements included replacing two larger forklifts with one SMV 16t compact unit (which reduces the time loading Simba’s press machine from two hours using two operators, to half and hour with one man).
Yard trucks were also standardised (six Komatsu BX50 FD25s) to enable interchangeability between departments, with Windsor fitting solid tyres to eliminate punctures. The firm also replaced an unsuitable pallet truck with a three wheel electric.
Alongside decreased fleet costs and improved productivity, Simba estimates savings of £5,000 per annum in puncture repair costs, not to mention downtime inflicted by punctures. And Windsor says the solid tyres don’t impact on driver comfort thanks to the BX50’s ‘dual floating structure’.
“I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Windsor,” says Simba transport manager, Rob Vickers. “They were quick to respond to any queries, our operators love the machines, and everything has run smoothly from start to finish.”
