The sky’s the limit with Liebherr’s Combilifts May 22nd 2009 One of the world’s largest crane manufacturers, Liebherr, is benefiting from the 4-way capabilities of two Combilift 4-way forklifts to handle a diverse range of bulky products at its manufacturing facility in Biberach in the South of Germany.
The massive volume of raw materials and finished product requires a very safe and efficient handling system, and the Combilifts were brought in as a more versatile solution to the previous conventional sideloaders. As the heaviest and largest elements for the tower cranes measure 12.43m by 2.3m, and weigh around 12 tonnes each, excellent manoeuvrability and good visibility were also key requirements for the forklifts chosen to work on the site.
Two diesel powered Combilifts, including the first ever 14t model to be shipped to Germany, work around the clock on a three-shift basis, unloading and loading around 90 HGV’s a day to keep the dispatch, assembly and paint shop departments constantly supplied with materials. Southern Germany’s harsh winters pose no threat of disruption, as the Combilifts have a proven track record of unhampered operation in snow and ice. Combilift has once again lived up to its slogan of Customised Handling Solutions by fitting extras and attachments tailored to the operation: hydraulic fork positioners and telescopic forks allow easy handling of the oversized and varied dimensions of product at Biberach. Combilift’s current range encompasses fifteen base models with capacities ranging from 2.5 – 14 tonnes, with LPG, diesel or AC electric power available. The new compact Combi-CB, a 4-way counterbalance design truck, is Combilift’s newest product, designed for operations which handle a mix of both palletised and longer length loads.
