Denby argues for super lorries May 27th 2010 Britain’s most controversial haulage firm boss, argued in favour of a new generation of 82-foot long super lorries at a special University of Huddersfield conference on International Sustainable Logistics.
Dick Denby, aged 74, whose family haulage firm is based in Lincolnshire, has clashed with the authorities over his specially-designed and built vehicles, which have been banned from Britain’s highways. In December, police prevented one of the lorries from leaving the firm’s premises.
But the enormous trucks are still being developed and are being put through their paces on private tracks. Experienced long-distance lorry drivers have recorded favourable verdicts on the handling qualities of the vehicles, which have passed skid-pan tests with flying colours, said Denby. This is despite their enormous length and the fact that they have two trailers coupled to the tractor unit.
Meanwhile, the arrival of a new government means that Denby has the opportunity to put his case again.
he has claimed the vehicles with their huge extra capacity would reduce the carbon footprint of the haulage industry on Britain’s roads by taking lorries off the roads. More articles from Handling & Storage Solutions: |
