FLTA and BITA emphasise apprentice opportunities
December 9th 2011

“There’s never been a better time to consider a career in fork lift truck engineering,” is the message from the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) and the British Industrial Truck Association (BITA).

Thanks to a series of initiatives from both of the trade associations representing the UK fork lift truck industry there are now lift truck engineering options to suit the full range of companies and students, accommodating every type of business that needs to maintain fork lift trucks.

Many different parties from across the industry have worked hard to develop lift truck apprenticeships that are accredited by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), the Sector Skills Council for the automotive retail industry.

The apprenticeships are delivered as Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Lift Truck) qualifications, within the lift truck pathway of the IMI’s Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (England) Apprenticeship Framework.

Both associations recognise the importance of attracting fresh talent to the industry at a time when many existing engineers are approaching retirement age. Also, with a number of government initiatives available there has never been a better time for an employer to take on an apprentice.
