Henkel installs safety barriers
January 21st 2011

Safety barrier manufacturer A-Safe has revamped the safety practices across Henkel UK’s manufacturing plants to protect employees from hazardous machinery in the production areas.

Henkel, the Germany-based company responsible for household and cosmetic brands such as Pritt glue, Schwarzkopf hair care and Loctite, took the steps to install A-Safe barriers having previously had nothing in place to protect staff from heavy machinery within its manufacturing warehouses.

A-Safe installed its three rail pedestrian barrier system across the manufacturing sites at Henkel to clearly designate pedestrian walkways and direct staff around and away from heavy machinery.

Karen Breeze, manufacturing performance co-ordinator at Henkel UK explained: “Across all plants we can have up to 100 people collectively working in our production areas, and therefore we quickly recognised that the pedestrian flow through our warehouses was not ideal.

"Staff would previously cut through the working area and so we needed better signposting and delineation of where staff should walk to reduce the risk of serious accident.

“The A-Safe system was a natural choice as it proved to be good value and good quality. The barriers have been placed around the machinery so staff can walk freely around the manufacturing plant without danger of accidents occurring.”
