New range offers speed, stability and advanced safety April 1st 2004 Developed in conjunction with Finning customers, the new Cat N range of counterbalance trucks offers faster lifting speeds, improved stability, advanced safety features and good all round visibility.
An evolution of the K range, the N range encompasses 1.5 to 3.0t models and is available with diesel or LPG engines. Both engine types benefit from low emissions and favourable fuel economy. Heavy duty radiators contribute to an extended lifespan and reduced levels of wear and tear. All LPG models are fitted with an advanced electronically controlled engine fitted with a three way catalytic converter.
Superior hydraulics mean that the N range can offer some of the fastest lift speeds on the market, aiding production and efficiency. Favourable visibility over the counterweight means the drivers vision is not obscured while reversing.
Pivotal to the overall design of the new range is driver safety. A specially designed power train layout and counterweight configuration ensure a low centre of gravity for high stability levels.
Many of the new features on the N range trucks have been designed with the driver in mind, says Finnings Keith Spence. Around 70% of additional materials handling costs can be attributed to the driver, so by improving and refining a trucks performance you can also aid a drivers productivity.
The Cat design philosophy is simple: a safe, comfortable unstressed operator is more productive and a profitable asset to any business.
To gain input, Caterpillar MCFE visited some of Finnings leading accounts to ascertain what design features would help their businesses. As a result, speed limiters are now fitted as standard on many models in the N range, helping to control truck speed and raise driving standards. In addition, belly plates are also fitted to protect the engine from loose debris and reduce costly wear and tear.
Ease of operation is aided by the small, precise steering wheel, which allows drivers to execute tight turns in confined areas and hydraulic control for enhanced manoeuvrability on uneven surfaces. More articles from Briggs Equipment UK Ltd: |
